Grand Hotel opened in 1887 and is now a historic landmark. The hotel's front porch is the longest in the world, and no cars are allowed on Mackinac island.

Transportation is via horse carriage, and since the Grand Hotel is closed in the off-season, the over 600 horses on Mackinac likely outnumber the humans as permanent residents.

As if these peculiarities weren't enough, the hotel has suites named after former First Ladies including Nancy Reagan and Jacqueline Kennedy, among others. Not just hype, because plenty of Presidents have enjoyed the hospitality of the Grand Hotel.

As for employment, the hotel is closed during off-season, so you have a better chance of getting in if you're willing to take a summer job.
